An Introduction to Visual Studies
In our image saturated world, visual literacy is not an extravagance, it is a necessity.
Visual imagery entertains us and sells products. It also shapes the way we remember the past and envision gender, race, and social class.
Cultural literacy requires an appreciation of visual culture: of art, film, and photography.
Visual Studies teaches you how to analyze and decode images, to interpret visual texts, and to use photography and film as investigative tools.
Comprehensive in our interdisciplinary approach to exploring our visual experience, Visual Studies at the University of Houston is unique in its:
- Wealth of local, national, and international connections.
- Partnerships with local arts institutions.
- Breadth of its expertise, which stretches from optometry, perceptual psychology, and cognitive science, to visual ethnography and the humanities and arts.
Visual Studies at the University of Houston is the first truly interdisciplinary program of its kind in the United States...
Join us as we build something special and unique!
