Lisa D’Amour, Katie Pearl, and Kurt Mueller
Friday March 27, 9:00am-5:45pm
How To Build A Forest is an ongoing process-performance that will take place in the lobby of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts from 8am to 8pm on Friday, March 27. As S.O.S. participants pass through and use the lobby, Lisa D'Amour and Kurt Mueller will build and dismantle a simulated forest from seven "tree kits" designed especially for this conference. People are encouraged to visit the forest during its various stages of becoming: There will be ways to watch, and things to do. The forest will be "complete" for exactly 30 minutes, from 5:15-5:45 pm, and then it will be dismantled and disappear
Inspired in part by the 100 trees lost during Hurricane Katrina at Lisa's collectively owned family home, How to Build a Forest invites people to consider their relationship to actual trees/forests, and to the metaphorical landscapes that forests evoke. Is the forest in the world as ephemeral as the forest in your mind?
How to Build a Forest is a project of Creative Capital.
