Step One: Describe Your Sample
The first statistics you present should always be descriptive statistics. They are meant to show the distributions of your independent and dependent variables.
We will go through an example of recent research on mental health and race. The analysis aimed to explore how mental health differed across race and ethnicity. The researchers investigated how differences in mental health may be related to several characteristics: gender, education, nativity, language use, education, and income, among others.
The following tables are examples of presenting descriptive statistics for the above question.
