Qualitative Methods

Qualitative Approach

Using qualitative methods is a very organic or grass roots approach to learning about a social group or issue. The process of qualitative inquiry begins with the issue or setting in question and then moves directly into the field in the form of observations or interviews which are recorded as data. There are no preconcieved notions or hypothesis put forth--rather investigations are guided by the setting, sample, or knowledge sought. The diagram below illustrates the data-driven, iterative process of qualitative research.
