Former Young Artist Competition winner appears at Gewandhaus

Clarinetist Kristin King, winner of the 2008 Young Artist Concerto Competition, appeared in a sold-out concert with the Akademisches Orchester Leipzig on October 20, 2009. Ms. King performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A Major in Leipzig, Germany at the famed Gewandhaus.

Currently, Kristin is an active orchestral musician in the Chicago area and is associate principal clarinet of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. Ms. King has performed with the Illinois Philharmonic, the Evanston Symphony Orchestra, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Ms. King was a member of the Texas Music Festival in 2008, the National Repertory Orchestra in 2007, and attended the Brevard Music Festival from 2005-2006. As a chamber musician, Kristin is a founding member of the Frangipani Wind Quintet, with whom she attended the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2006. She is also a member of Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, and has performed with the International Chamber Artists in Chicago.

Dates and locations announced for 2010 Texas Music Festival Recruitment Tour

The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival will conduct a recruitment tour to meet with students around the U.S. and distribute information about the 2010 festival. Representatives from the festival will visit prominent music schools and conservatories in New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Texas during the months of October, November, and December.

Percussion live auditions scheduled for Feb. 5, 2010 in Houston

Percussion applicants now have the option to either send in a recorded audition or participate in a live audition in Houston on February 5, 2010. All live auditions are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis and are recorded for submission to TMF faculty.

The deadline to apply for a live audition is January 20, 2010. Upon receipt of the application and non-refundable $50 fee, the TMF office will contact applicants to set up a live audition.

Live auditions for percussion will take place on the main University of Houston campus at the Moores School of Music in Room 185. The required instruments for the auditions will be provided. Winner of 2009 concerto competition named

Violinist Yi-Chun Lin was the 2009 winner of TMF Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition.

As the first prize winner and winner of the Audience Favorite award, Ms. Lin will be invited to perform as soloist with the Akademisches Orchester Leipzig, Germany in the famed Gewandhaus under the baton of Maestro Horst Förster.
