The 2008 Cougar Band Camp is looking for music major band students to fill positions of camp counselor. Applications are due to Mr. Benzer’s mailbox in the MSM office by Monday, June 2, 2008. The Bill Moffit Memorial Cougar Band Alumni Scholarship is a one time $1,000 payable in one $500 payment in the fall semester and one $500 payment in the spring semester.

A Tribute to Dr. William (Bill) Moffit 1925-2008
Dr. William C. (Bill) Moffit (5/13/1925 – 3/5/2008) renowned marching band director, passed away Wednesday, March 05, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Eternity Funeral Home, 4856 Oakdale Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida.
Dr. Bill Moffit, former director of the University of Houston Cougar Marching Band and Cougar Brass, is known by our community for his musical passion. He is credited for taking the marching band’s storied military-style marching past into its present-day marching style. Dr. Moffit pioneered and patented his “Patterns of Motion” for which the high-energy, high-stepping Cougar Marching Band was known during his legendary years at the University of Houston.
As a faculty member at the University of Houston, Dr. Moffit was nationally recognized as a music arranger. Bands from across the United States and around the world play music from his Soundpower series. His legacy lives on today. So revered is Dr. Bill Moffit that the UH Band Alumni Association and the Moores School of Music have worked to create the William C. Moffit Chair, an endowed professorship in his honor.
