Scholarship and Award

The Chinese Studies program would like to announce the creation of two
new scholarships intended for undergraduates, to be awarded through the
College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The scholarships are
intended for students focusing on East Asia or South Asia in the areas of
language, culture, or history. Each scholarship will be $500. More
details of the scholarships will be announced as they are available.
Applications will start in January 2008, with the first scholarships taking
effect for the 2008-2009 academic year.

SINO-USA
Friendship Award. The Award is given to students who excel
in Chinese language courses at UH. It is sponsored annually
by the Education Section of the Consulate General of PRC in
Houston. Students who are currently taking Chinese language
and culture courses offered by the China program are eligible
to apply. Students should write a statement of application
and submit it to the instructor of the course. The deadline
of the application is April 1 each year.

HSK B Scholarship for Studies in China.
This highly competitive scholarship is sponsored by the Chinese
government, the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a
Foreign Language. It provides a full scholarship to study
in China for one year or half a year. The scholarship provides
full tuition, fees, medical insurance, room, board, textbooks,
and monthly allowance. Recipients may choose any university
to study in China. The scholarship is given via the Education
Section of Consulate General of PRC in Houston and the Chinese
program at UH. Students who minor in Chinese Studies are eligible
to apply. Students may receive the application form from the
webpage of the Chinese program or request from your Chinese
course instructor. The deadline of the application is March
1 every other year.
