India Studies Courses
The University of Houston is inaugurating a Religions of India course through the Religious Studies Program in the fall 2006 semester. As with all the proposed courses, this course will allow students to earn three credit hours that will count towards graduation.
Future courses include Anthropology and Archaeology of India, beginning in fall semester 2007. This course will be offered by the University of Houston in cooperation with the University of Houston Clear Lake. Further course proposals are listed on the courses page.
The Long-Term Goal
The University of Houston India Studies Program
With the eventual availability of a sufficient number of India Studies courses at the University, students would have the option to take a certificate or a minor in India Studies. The certificate or minor would be awarded to students who have completed a minimum number of courses in Indian Studies such as Anthropology, Art, History, or foreign language. This honor would be cited on their diploma recognizing them as participants in the University Indian Studies Program. This would serve to establish the University of Houston as a truly global institution.
The India Studies Program will also facilitate study abroad and the exchange of scholars. While the Program will be housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, students, faculty, and alumni from other colleges are welcome participants.
