Course Requirements for German Area Studies Majors
The following courses must be completed for a BA in German Area Studies:
Austrian Painter Egon Schiele

GERM 1501, 1502, 2331 and 2332, by course or by placement. Of these lower division courses, only GERM 2332 actually counts toward the major. Other courses must be advanced. (Advanced courses means junior and senior level courses, numbered 3300-4399.)

15 semesters hours in German, including 3331 (Introduction to German Literature I), 3333, 3334 (German Conversation and Composition), and 4373 (German Culture and Civilization).

HIST 3358 (Modern Germany Since 1918)..

6 semester hours of relevant art, music or philosophy selected from ARTH 1381, 2387, 4385, 4386; MUSI 3300; 3301; PHIL 3385, 3386.

6 semester hours of relevant economics, geography, or political science selected from ECON 3389, 4368, 4379; GEOG 3361; POLS 3311, 3313, 3329, 3341.
Note: ARTH 1381, and MUSI 3300 and 3301 are approved for the cultural heritage requirement and for the HFAC fine arts requirement.
German area studies majors must earn at least a 2.5 grade point average in all German courses counting toward the major and attempted at the University of Houston.
For students declaring a language major effective fall, 1995, Exit Examinations and Language Proficiency tests will be obligatory, and will be administered in the senior year. There will be no charge for the Exit Examinations nor will these jeopardize a student's graduation. In the event that there is a fee for the Language Proficiency tests, students will have to pay this fee.
