Course requirements for French majors

In addition to the other requirements for the Bachelor of Arts, students will complete 27 hours in French at the advanced level (3000 and 4000) to include the following Twelve semester hours at the advanced level as follows:

1. FREN 3312, 3313, 3320, 3314
2. Nine hours chosen from FREN 3311, 3316, 3317, 3318, 4313, 4315, 4317, 3397 (by approval), 4397 (by approval)        
3. Six hours of a literature course at the 4000 level.
   

In addition, credit for a second year of another foreign language, or equivalent is required. Exceptions are made upon approved petition outlining a reasonable substitution. This requirement is waived if student is completing a double major.

Master's program

Note: The full-time Master's program in French has been temporarily suspended for budgetary reasons. However, graduate course options are available upon demand.

Areas of concentration

• Courses in French literature; critical theory (Jungian, Freudian, Feminist); History of French Thought; Literary History
• Professional preparation for secondary education and/or Ph.D. studies.
