Undergraduate Program
The Department of History offers a broad range of undergraduate courses in African, East Asian, European, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and United States history, covering chronological periods from ancient to contemporary.
Our faculty has special strengths in African-American history, business history, diplomatic history, environmental history, medical history, medieval studies, Mexican-American history, military history, public history, social history, and women's history.
Courses are taught in a variety of formats, ranging from large lectures to small, seminar-style courses emphasizing discussion. Some courses are also taught through Distance Education.
In our commitment to developing students' critical thinking and writing skills, all classes include writing assignments, which might involve essay examinations, book reviews, or research papers. Those students who are interested in developing their research and writing skills further are encouraged to consider opportunities such as a senior Honors Thesis or an independent study with a faculty member.

Program requirements
The History Department offers the Bachelor of Arts in History, the Bachelor of Arts in History with Teacher Certification, and a Minor in History. You may also use History as a Second Teaching Field for teacher certification.
