Graduate Admissions

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your inquiry about graduate study in English at the University of Houston. Before you complete and submit an application, please see the Department of English Graduate Studies website and/or the Creative Writing website (if applicable). Those websites include descriptions of and entrance requirements for the degree programs that interest you.

If you decide to proceed with the application process, please return all components of your application as required for the degree program to which you’re applying. IMPORTANT: Please note that the University of Houston no longer distributes paper application packets. Instead, you may download the application form from the Admissions website and print it yourself , OR you may use the on-line Texas Common Application. If you download the application form, please send a hard copy to the Department of English as well as the Admissions Office. PLEASE SEND HARD COPIES OF ADDITIONAL APPLICATION COMPONENTS (I.E., WRITING SAMPLE AND STATEMENT OF INTENT) DIRECTLY TO THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OR CREATIVE WRITING PROGRAM, as specified under the appropriate degree program. GRE test scores and recommendation letters may be sent directly under separate cover rather than included in the application packet. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
