University of Houston Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders University Speech, Language & Hearing Clinic United Way Outreach Programs Support from the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast enables the University Speech, Language & Hearing Clinic to broaden its mission to provide services to the university and surrounding community through its community outreach programs. The mission of the University Speech, Language & Hearing Clinic: A United Way Facility is to provide services to adults and children for the evaluation, remediation and prevention of speech, language, learning and hearing disorders and the training of students in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
The Clinic is currently providing services in the following community facilities:
- Magnolia Multi-Service Center
- Northside Health Center
- House of Tiny Treasures
- University of Houston Charter School
- NCI: New Horizons
- Audiology Clinic: Various locations
Magnolia Multi-Service Center and the Northside Health Center
The speech and language programs at Magnolia Multi-Service Center and Northside Health Center provide evaluation, screening and treatment for children and adults with speech, language and/or hearing disorders. Individual or small group therapy is provided on a weekly basis. Speech, language and hearing screenings may also be provided for larger groups during different times of the year. The speech and language department is staffed by a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist and a graduate student from the University of Houston Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Schedule of Services: Speech-Language services are available ten hours a week, year round, and we see between 10-15 clients a week. Evaluation and screenings are scheduled on a weekly or bimonthly basis.

- Both facilities located in high need areas
House of Tiny Treasures
The House of Tiny Treasures is part of SEACH, non-profit organization. HTT is a preschool and daycare facility for children who parents are homeless, living in a shelter, or who have a history of homelessness and are enrolled in vocational rehabilitation programs. The University of Houston provides evaluation, group and individual therapy, pre-literacy enrichment, and screenings at this site. Parent education and collaboration with other therapy disciplines is also provided. HTT houses two classrooms a toddler age class and a preschool age class.
Schedule of Services: Services are provided year round one day a week. Additional screening or evaluation is scheduled on an as needed basis. Monthly therapy meetings are used for parent and teacher education.

University of Houston Charter School
The University of Houston Charter School is a K-5th public charter school located on the University of Houston campus. UHCS is constructivist model program. The Clinic provides evaluation, treatment, and speech and hearing screening to the students. An educational model of service delivery is utilized at this site to comply with public school regulation. Services are provided on a public school schedule.
Schedule of Services: Frequency and duration of services are determined by ARD committee consensus.
Population:
- Age Kindergarten through 5th grade
- Multi-age classrooms
- Serves the university community and greater Houston area
NCI-New Horizons Center
New Horizons is a Headstart center and public charter school serving preschool age children. Children attend a half day of Headstart curriculum and a half day of public school pre-k curriculum. The university provides screening, evaluation, and group and individual therapy to this facility using an educational model of service delivery.
Schedule of Services: Frequency and duration of services are determined by ARD committee consensus.

- Pre-kindergarten 3-5 years
- Multi-cultural population
- Multi-lingual population
Audiology Clinic
Hearings screenings are provided to various community facilities one- two times per year. A speech-language pathologist and graduate students complete the hearing screenings.
