Security/Dismissal
Security at test centers takes many forms. It first involves ensuring that the person who arrives to take the test is the person who is registered to take the test. Test takers are required to present ID that includes a photograph and their signature. ID verification may also include thumb printing, photographing, videotaping, or other forms of electronic ID confirmation.
The test administrators are authorized to dismiss test takers from a test session for any of the following infractions:
- attempting to take the test for someone else
- failing to provide acceptable identification
- creating a disturbance
- giving or receiving unauthorized help
- eating or drinking during the test
- using testing aids of any kind
- exceeding the time permitted
- leaving the test center and attempting to return
- attempting to remove scratch paper from the testing room
- attempting to tamper with the operation of the computer
- attempting to remove test questions (in any format) from the testing room
- refusing to follow directions
Test center staff are not authorized to answer questions from examinees regarding examination content, testing software, or scoring.
You may not take any personal belongings into the computer station, including, but not limited to, the following:
- mechanical or electronic devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), calculators, digital watches, watches with computer communication and/or memory capability, electronic paging devices, recording or filming devices, radios, cellular telephones;
- outerwear, such as coats, jackets, head wear, gloves;
- book bags, backpacks, handbags, purses, briefcases;
- books, notes, study materials, or scratch paper;
- food, candy, gum, or beverages.
If you bring any personal belongings to the test center, you must store them in a designated storage cubicle just inside the ETC. You should keep in mind that the storage facilities are small and that all stored mechanical or electronic devices must be turned off.
E.T.C. Guidelines

- E.T.C. is monitored at all times through video surveillance.
- Food and drink are not allowed in the E.T.C.
- E.T.C. and staff assume no responsibility for students' personal belongings.
E.T.C. Closings and Delayed Starting Times
If adverse conditions (such as extreme weather or a local power failure) or other unplanned circumstances at the University of Houston that may make it necessary to cancel the administration of a test or to delay the beginning of testing, a message will be posted on the E.T.C website. Do not call the E.T.C.
