Terms in Podcasting
- Enhanced Podcast
- A podcast that makes use of chapters, hyperlinks or other features other than simple audio.
- iTunes
- Apple's digital media player application that currently allows users to subscribe to podcasts and sync them to the iPod.
- MP3
- An audio format that is considered universal for its ability to play on a wide-variety of players.
- MPEG-4
- A compression codec that is commonly used on the internet due to its small size and high quality.
- Podcast
- A blend of the terms "iPod" and "broadcasting", it refers the ability to broadcast content via the internet which users can then subscribe to and download automatically using aggregator software.
- QuickTime
- Apple's media player that handles common media formats such as MPEG-4 and MP3. It is currently the only player that can handle podcasts created using h.264 compression.
- RSS
- Really Simple Syndication
- Streaming
- A delivery method that delivers content to users via the internet a little at a time in a constant flow of information.
- USB
- Universal Serial Bus
- Vodcast
- a podcast that makes use of full-motion video
- XML
- Extended Markup Language
