Guided Tour
Description
An Art History instructor, interested in having his students engage real artworks, decided to use podcasts as a way to get his students out into the real world. He recorded audio narratives about individual artworks in local museums and galleries and recorded interviews with the local art experts, then podcast these recordings as different audio tours that the students would use to familiarize themselves with the accompanying artworks.
Additional Applications:
- Architecture: Tour local buildings and spaces.
- Film Analysis: Have students watch short clips along with pre-recorded audio that describes important aspects of the scene.
- Web Quests: Have students log in to specified websites and talk them through what they are seeing.
Educational Benefits
- Students are able to view real resources in the community rather than being tied to textbooks.
- When coupled with a hybrid format, allows students to conduct learning at their own pace.
