Nicholas Leichter

Nicholas Leichter received a BA in dance from Connecticut College where he studied with Jaclynn Villamil and Martha Myers. He was a member of the Ralph Lemon Company from 1993-1995, and he has performed with the companies of Jennifer Muller, Ronald K. Brown, and Gus Solomons.

He has taught throughout the US and at festivals in Belgium, Russia, and Taiwan, and his work has been commissioned by institutions throughout the US.

Nick's dance company, NicholasLeichterDance, performs high energy fusion dances that incorporate elements of street dance, hip hop, and modern dance to popular music. Nicholas Leichter set a dance work on the University of Houston Dance Ensemble in the Fall of 2001.

Nicholas Leichter's residency was funded by the National College Choreography Initiative, which was sponsored by Dance/USA, and made possible through the generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Target Stores, Marshall Field's, and Mervyn's with support from the Target Foundation. The University of Houston is the only university or college in the state of Texas granted the prestigious award, which is funded through Dance/USA and the National Endowment for the Arts.
