Docent-Guided Tours

Discover the newest, most innovative contemporary art to explore the social, political, and artistic forces that shape our surroundings.

Blaffer offers free guided tours to school groups, college classes, or any other group of 10 or more adults or kids; tours are available in several languages. We invite teachers, professors, parents, tour groups, and social directors to book a tour.

Our knowledgeable docents are advanced undergraduate and graduate students in art, art history, and education at the University of Houston, as well as professional artists. They can easily adjust to the interests of diverse groups. Specialized sketching, foreign language, and tours for non-native English speakers are available, as are tours of the University's public sculpture collection.

Book a Tour
Register on-line, or call Katherine Veneman at 713.743.9526.

Cell Phone Tours

Visitors of Blaffer have the option of taking a free cell phone tour. Every time you see the Guide by Cell logo, simply call 713.481.2811 and follow the prompts to learn more about an artwork.

Helpful Hints
Please see the Tour Group Guidelines to help your experience go more smoothly.
You may schedule tours during museum hours (Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00am - 4:00pm).

  • Two weeks notice is required.
  • Please provide a count of the number of participants when making your tour request. If the count changes after the initial confirmation, please let us know.
  • The museum can accommodate 50 participants comfortably at one time, 75 participants maximum.
  • Please contact the museum as soon as possible if you need to cancel your scheduled tour.
  • Please try to arrive at the museum on time. As many of our docents are university students, they may not be available before or after the scheduled time. Click here for information on parking and directions.

Please Note
Because contemporary art takes on thought-provoking subject matter that sometimes better suits adult audiences' interests, we suggest that K-12 educators see our exhibitions and discuss their visit with us prior to the tour. Exhibition admission is free at all times for all visitors. Please ask for a parking pass when visiting.
