Verbs included in the drill for the Perfect Active:

ἀποθνῄσκω, ἀποθανοῦμαι, απέθανον, τέθνηκα = to die. Cf.  θάνατος, θνητός, etc.

κρίνω, κρινῶ, ἔκρινα, κέκρικα = to judge

κηρύσσω (Att  κηρύττω), κηρύξω, ἐκήρυξα =  to proclaim, preach (in koinÍ Greek)

 

ἄγω, ἄξω, ἤγαγον, ἦχα =  to lead, lead away

ἀκούω, ἀκούσομαι (later ἀκούσω) ἦκουσα, ἀκήκοα = to hear

ἀλλαχοῦ (adv ) = elsewhere, somewhere else

ἀποδημέω >, ἀπεδήμησα =  to be away from home, go abroad

ἀποθνῄσκω, ἀποθανοῦμαι, απέθανον, τέθνηκα = to die. Cf.  θάνατος, θνητός, etc.

βλέπω, βλέψομαι / (later) βλέψω, ἔβλεψα, βέβλεφα =  to look

 

Γαλιλαία, ας, ἡ = Galilee

γι(γ)νώσκω, γνώσομαι, [ἔγνων], ἔγνωκα = to recognize, know

 

δαιμονίζομαι = to be possessed by a demon

δαιμόνιον, ου, τό = a divinity / a demon

δεῦρο = here(to), hither.

διώκω, διώξω, εθδίωκα, δεδίωχα = to chase, pursue

δύω, δύσω, ἔδυσα =  to put clothes on, sink into; (in Lesson 19) to come over, set upon

ἐρῆμος, η, ον ( ἔρημος) = desert, lonely

ἐσθίω, ἔδομαι, ἔφαγον, ἐδήδοκα = to eat. Cf. anthropophagy

εὐαγγελίζομαι = to preach

Εὐριπίδης, ου, ὁ = Euripides, tragic poet of the 5th century BCE

εὑρίσκω, εὑρήσω, εὗρον / ηὗρον, εὕρηκα / ηὕρηκα = to find. Cf "Eureka!

ἔχω, ἕξω, ἔσχον, ἔσχηκα = to have; + an adverb = to be, e.g.  ἔχω κακῶς = to be ill.

 

ζάω > ζῶ, ζήσομαι, ἔζησα, ἔζηκα = live, breathe.  This verb makes contractions in η  rather than in long ᾱ :  ζῶ, ζῇς, ζῇ, etc.

 

Ἡσίοδος, ου, = Hesiod

Ἥφαιστος, ου, ὁ = Hephaestus, god of the forge and a minor god of fire

ἤφιε (late 3rd sg Imperfect of ἀφίημι, a verb not studied in this course)  =  to allow.  

 

θαυμάζω, θαυμάσω, ἐθαύμασα, τεθαύμακα  = to wonder, admire

θεραπεία, ας, ἡ = cure. Cf. therapy

θύω, θύσω, ἔθυσα, τέθυκα = to offer sacrifice; τέθυται: 3rd person sg of the middle-passive perfect

 

ἵνα + Subjunctive = so that, in order to (purpose clause)

 

κατα-διώκω = to follow, pursue

κλέπτω, κλέψω, ἔκλεψα, κέκλοφα, κέκλεμμαι  = to steal. Cf cleptomaniac

κομίζω, κομιῶ, ἐκόμισα, κεκόμικα  = to provide, supply

κωμόπολις, εως, ἡ  = town; ἐχομένη κωμόπολις  =  next town

 

λέγω, ἐρῶ, εἶπον, εἴρηκα = to say, speak

λείπω, λείψω, ἔλιπον, λέλοιπα  =   to  leave behind, abandon

λύω, λύσω, ἔλυσα, λέλυκα = to untie, free;  λύομαι = to ransom

 

μέμνημαι (perfect of  μιμνήσκομαι, to recall) = to remember

 

ναυτικός, ή, όν = naval

 

Ὄλυμπος, ου, ὁ = Olympus, the abode of the gods in ancient Greek religion

οὐδέποτε / οὔποτε = never

ὄψιος, α, ον = late;  ὀψία, ας, ἡ = the evening

 

πείθω, πείσω, ἔπεισα, πέπεικα = to persuade;  πείθομαι  + dat = to obey, listen to

πίνω, πίομαι, ἔπιον, πέπωκα = to drink

ποικίλος, η, ον = various

πορεύω, πορεύσω, ἐπόρευσα, πεπόρευκα = to ferry; πορεύομαι, πορεύσομαι = to walk, march

πράσσω (Att.  πράττω), πράξω, ἔπραξα, πέπραγα = to do, practise

Προμηθεύς, έως, ὁ = Prometheus, the mythic rebellious Titan who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.

πρωΐ  = early, early in the day; πρωΐ ἔνυχα λίαν = very early in the night

 

Σίμων, ονος, ὁ =  Simon

σπονδή, ῆς, ἡ = libation; in the pl, peace treaty (solemnized by a libation)

σύμβολος, ου, ὁ = counselor. (su/n + boulh/)
