Hazel A Pierre

Assistant Professor

Hazel Pierre is an Assistant Professor with research interests in the literary and cultural production of the Caribbean Diaspora and other 'Postcolonial' spaces. She is currently revising her manuscript Auto/biographing Caribbeanness: Re-imagining Diasporic Nation and Identity in which she proposes alternative theoretical and conceptual frameworks for understanding the construction of nation and subjectivities in the Caribbean and its diaspora in Britain. In her next research project she will undertake a comparative analysis of the discourses of multiculturalism in the US and Britain as they are represented in contemporary fiction and visual arts. Dr Pierre teaches courses on the Caribbean novel in English, Caribbean Diasporic novels, Caribbean poetry and drama and auto/biography and literary theory.

Caribbean Diasporic and 'Postcolonial' Literatures in English; Postcolonial theory; questions of colonialism, imperialism, globalization; nationalism and the construction of subjectivities;questions of representation in literature and other visual media especially painting. Research interests intersect with Hemispheric, Cultural and Auto/biography Studies.
