David Judkins has been at the University of Houston for thirty+ years. He received his Ph.D. in English Literature from Michigan State University where he specialized in Early Seventeenth-Century English Literature. Dr. Judkins teaches classes in Shakespeare, Renaissance Literature, Postcolonial Literature, and Travel Literature. He has on three occasions taught with the University of Pittsburgh's study abroad program, Semester at Sea, traveling around the world with students on the S.S. Universe-Explorer. He has written two books, "Ben Jonson's Non-Dramatic Works: A Reference Guide," and "An Astute Student's Guide to Study Abroad." In addition he has written several articles on Renaissance literature and travel literature which remain his primary research interests. In 2002 Dr. Judkins won a University Outstanding Teaching Award and in 2004 he won the Outstanding Teaching award in Distance Education. Dr. Judkins is currently director of the Houston Teachers Institute, a partnership program with the University of Houston and the Houston Independent School District to strengthen teachers and teaching in the public school. He regularly teaches one class a semester in the English Department.
