Sara Draper

Sara Draper, director of Dance Path, has created contemporary dance works in Houston since 1980, and was a recipient of the CACHH Creative Artist Award in 1995-96. Her works have been performed by a number of companies in Houston, including Chrysalis Dance Company, Joan Karff's New Dance Group, and the Ensemble here at the University of Houston.

Her piece, "El Cerrojo" (The Door Latch) was selected to be performed in the National American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 1998. Her dance work has been presented by Diverse Works and the Houston International Festival.

In addition to working as a choreographer, Sara has been the facilitator for "Fieldwork" in Houston. The Field, which is a New York based artist support center, offers developmental workshops for performing artists.

Sara is also a dance educator, teaching technique classes for various studios and institutions in the Houston area. She taught dance for eight years at St. John's School, where she created the middle school curricular dance program and directed the dance ensemble.

Sara has a BA in Anthropology from UH - reflecting her interest in diverse cultures and aesthetics.
