Dorrell MartinDorrell Martin is the Artistic Director of the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company. Mr. Martin is a graduate of HSPVA and attended North Carolina School of the Arts. He has also trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Broadway Dance, Martha Graham School, the Feld Ballet, and Jazz artists Pattie Obey and Gus Giordano. His broad background in dance training represents his interest in directing that demonstrates jazz dance as an evolving contemporary art form. As a performer, Mr. Martin has been a guest artist with several Houston dance companies, including Psophonia and the Sandra Organ Dance Company. Dorrell is an active teacher as well, teaching at the Houston Met Dance Center and in other dance institutions in Houston. The Houston Metropolitan Dance Company and its affiliated school were founded in 1995 with a mission to contribute to the vitality and diversity of Houston's dance community. They strive to enhance the quality of life in the community through their programs which include a Center for dance whose objective is to train a dancer for their long term goals both through such areas as health maintenance and training for a professional dance career. Their educational outreach program, "In Motion," provides services to schools and organizations in the inner city and the suburbs. "In Motion" highlights their interest in education, as well as dance as performance art. Michelle Smith is the Executive Director of Houston Metropolitan Dance Company. |
