Chrysalis Dance CompanyChrysalis Dance Company was founded in Houston in 1983 by Christine Lidvall, and is currently directed by Linda Phenix. Chrysalis is a repertory dance company that features the work of regional and national choreographers. They present contemporary dance works that range in theme from strong emotional contexts to historical events and people, to personal stories, and to aesthetic inspirations from the world of art. The dances they present can be serious and thoughtful, or quirky and humorous. Linda Phenix, Director of Chrysalis, started as a dancer in Chrysalis in 1988. In 1993, Linda became resident choreographer, and in 1998 she became Company Director. Linda has coordinated numerous residencies and community based projects, as well as widening the performance scope of the company by facilitating regional tours. In addition to her numerous responsibilities as an administrator and director, Linda Phenix has been an active choreographer in the Houston area for the past 20 years. Her work encompasses a broad range of themes, including using the work of such artists as Picasso and Paul Klee as sources of inspiration, and themes of pioneer women in Texas, as well works that draw upon jazz music themes. Her extensive teaching credentials, including running the dance program at Rice University for 20 years, demonstrate her long-term interest in dance education.
