Graduate Fellowships

The Graduate Fellowship Program is designed to recruit outstanding students for graduate study and to foster research in the area of Mexican American and Latino Studies. The Graduate Fellowship is open to all students who are interested in pursuing an M.A. or Ph.D. in the College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Education, or Social Work. A committee composed of faculty associated with the Center for Mexican American Studies chooses the recipients. Fellowships of up to $12,000 per year, renewable for a second year, are awarded to students who meet the following criteria.

College Career Days

Each year, since 1983, the Center for Mexican American Studies schedules college career days for Houston area high school seniors. Students that attend, spend the day at workshops on admission, financial aid, and student life. With the help of our student volunteers and staff, the high school students receive a tour of the University's campus and also receive help in completing an admissions form.

Academic Achievers Program

The Academic Achievers Program, formerly the Urban Experience Program, is sponsored by the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Office of the President. It was established in the fall of 1994 and is designed to retain and propel more students to graduation.

Academic Achievers Program at Austin High School

The Academic Achievers Program at Austin High School has existed since 1988. First known as the “Hispanic Family College Project” and later as the “SABE- Students Aspiring to a Better Education- Program”, this program focuses on helping at-risk students achieve excellent academic standing, high school graduation, and college enrollment.
