Academic Achievers Program - University of Houston
Overview
The Academic Achievers Program is sponsored by the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Office of the President. It was established in the fall of 1994 and is designed to retain and propel more students to graduation. The mission of the AAP at the University of Houston is to recruit underrepresented students. Students complying with the following criteria are considered when selecting Academic Achievers Program:
- Minimum 2.7 GPA
- Demonstrate scholastic achievement
- Demonstrate financial need
- First in their family to attend college
- Involvement in extracurricular activities
- Completed less than 66 hours
- Complete a personal interview
- Turn in application before the deadline
Students who are accepted into the AAP program are eligible to receive a $2,500 annual scholarship, receive priority registration, and career and leadership opportunities.
An AAP student is required to
- Enroll as a full time student (12 hour minimum)
- Maintain a minimum 2.7 GPA each semester
- Complete mandatory individual academic tutoring and/or study hall hours
- Attend skills workshops and leadership training
- Attend academic counseling
- Attend monthly meetings
- Sign a contract agreeing to abide by the requirements of the program
